Uniform Policy

Troop 35 requires all members wear a full and correct uniform, which consists of the following Official BSA items. (The Troop presents new Scouts with the Troop Neckerchief.)

Class A Uniform: is worn to all Troop meetings, Courts of Honor, and for Official Travel. Official BSA Uniform items include a Scout shirt, pants or shorts, belt & buckle, socks and Troop Neckerchief with slide. A Merit Badge Sash is also worn at all Courts of Honor.

Class B Uniform: is worn at campouts or as designated. Troop 35 T Shirt, the BSA Red (golf type) knit shirt; Sweatshirt or Scouting related T-Shirt, with Scout Pants, shorts, Scout belt and buckle and hat, when appropriate.

Proper placement of insignia is illustrated is the Boy Scout Handbook, and includes:

  • Red Shoulder Loops
  • Left Pocket: Badge of Rank & Arrow of Light (As earned)
  • Right Pocket (above BSA name): Troop Name Tag
  • Right pocket: One temporary patch
  • Left Sleeve: Troop 35 patch and Signal Hill/NW Suburban Patches
  • Right Sleeve: U.S. Flag, Patrol Patch and ONE Quality Unit Patch
  • Merit Badge Sash: Merit badges on front in columns of three (3) badges

Official BSA Uniform items can be purchased as several retail stores in the area or at the Scout Shop, located at: Northwest Suburban Council, 600 North Wheeling Road, Mt. Prospect, Il 60056; (847) 358-7492 It is near Randhurst Mall. Check on directions before going, because it is not particularly easy to find. There are other District Scout Shops in St. Charles and Elgin. Check your phone books for the location nearest your home or work. Also, Adult Leaders go to the shops frequently and may be able to help you.

Scouts are required to wear a uniform at all Official Troop Outings. Class A or Class B uniform will be designated in advance. Failure to wear the Scout Uniform may result in not participating in the event.

Please donate any uniform items you will not be using by dropping them off, in clean condition, at any Troop meeting. Experienced uniform items are available at a Troop Uniform Exchange. Contact the Scoutmaster for information about uniform items currently available.
